The Program Director will have the ability to shape and grow what is predicted to be an influential and impactful program in the state and region.

In addition to the administrative duties, the Program Director will contribute to high quality programming and meeting student needs through teaching, research, and service. A central task for the Program Director is to set up the newly established MSW program for accreditation candidacy with the Council of Social Work Education. This will include submitting letters of institutional intent and application forms, establishing and submitting benchmarks, writing program responses to benchmark reviews, coordinating site visits over the first three years, paying candidacy fees, and submitting an initial accreditation self-study.

Additionally, the Program Director will develop the curriculum, coordinate and head faculty searches, and establish professional liaisons in the community. Another important component in establishing the new MSW program will be recruitment of students, advertising the program, and coordination and communication with other programs in the department, the college and the university. The position also includes administrative and leadership tasks typical for directing an academic program. The Program Director is expected to schedule courses, schedule faculty and staff meetings, supervise MSW administrative staff, advise students, follow up on student concerns, manage student applications, set-up outreach programs, and other tasks pertaining to managing the MSW program. It is expected that the Program Director will take on a leadership role in the department with a vision and strong commitment to establishing and growing the new MSW program. It is expected that the new Program Director will foster collaboration between the programs in the department and will contribute to strengthening the department. While half of the Program Director’s workload will be dedicated to administrative tasks required for the MSW program, as a faculty member, he/she is also required to teach one course per semester, maintain an active research program, and render service to the academic community at ISU and his/her profession.

About the Creation of the Masters in Social Work Program:
The Department of Sociology, Social Work, and Criminal Justice at Idaho State University is currently accredited to offer a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in social work. The University is now adding a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree. The new MSW program will prepare graduates for advanced professional practice in an area of concentration within the field of social work through mastery of a core set of competencies as set forth by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Students must graduate from an accredited program in order to be eligible for licensure within the state.

Given the current state of the profession for employment opportunities, Southeast Idaho (Regions 5 & 6) community need, and ISU student need, an MSW program at ISU is necessary. The University is proposing an option for students which will be based on quality, face-to-face interactions with intense faculty supervision and contact. Given Southeast Idaho’s student base of first generation students and the demand for face-to-face learning, the proposed option will meet student learning needs within the State and the need for qualified professionals within the profession and community.

Procedure for Candidacy:
While applications and nominations will be accepted until the position is filled, parties who apply by September 29, 2017 will be given first consideration. Please submit a PDF version of your curriculum vitae and letter of interest upon application. All applications and nominations will be held in confidence. Note that salary will be commensurate with education and experience and that ISU offers a competitive benefits package.
